Hi Stephen, I have already posted much of this request on the general Newby forum but I hope you don't mind me asking you directly? Can you throw any light on the origins of my Great Grandfather's family. His name was William - later Robinson James Newby born at 5, Gee Street, Pancras, London. (Then Middlesex) on 7th July 1859. His mothers was Caroline Newby. Not sure if he knew his father as on his birth certificate it is only his mothers name and it does suggest her maiden name was Newby.I've checked the 1851 census for that address and nothing. But there was a Caroline Newby, spinster, aged 29 living a couple of Roads away and she came from Giping in Norfolk...I've wondered if she might be his mother but that would have made her 37 when Robinson was born! I would be most grateful for your help as I have been trying for years now and have come to a grinding halt! Robinson James married a Ellen Puttick in 1884 in Mile End, in the Eastend of London. (Then Middlesex) and on his marriage certificate it does have a fathers name for him. It states his fathers name was John Newby and was a carpenter. All very confusing! Robinson and Ellen had a large family by all accounts, all bought up in the Eastend of London, (Stepney, Mile End, Bow,Poplar) so if you know of any of their children please could you let me know? I know for sure one was called William and he went up to Nottingham to live. Another was my grandfather, John James. Hoping you might come up with something, I'd be more than grateful.Rob.
