Hi Mary,
You are correct about Nicetown.Hans DeNyce and his brother came to America and obtained citizenship on Sept 29,1709. They came from Krefeld. They were Mennonites.Hans settled at what is now called Nicetown(named after the family. He erected a substantial dwelling house, the first of any consequence erected in the vicinity, which stood until the year 1800 when the home was destroyed with fire.
Hans purchased 52 acres in the City Liberties. He continued to purchase ground and ended up with 207 acres. He then purchased ground piece by piece in Frederick Twp. Montgomery Co. PA. the ground located in Skippack and Perkiomen . He never lived on this land and only resided in the North Libeerties.
You can find a map from 1731 drawn by Ben Eastburn found in the library Phila. also a book Colonial Families of Phila. by John W Jordan
Hope this helps somewhat.
Cathy
