By 1660 the Scots had started leaving Ireland and by 1770 hundreds of thousands of Scotch-Irish had fled to the land of freedom - America. They came to all parts of the east coast.I know that many settled in New York and Penn. There is a large Nickles' Bakery in Ohio and Western Penn. and a town of Nicklesville/berg in northwestern Penn. Most of the people that came from Ireland in the 1600's were Presbyterians. The English settlers concentrated around the big eastern cities and the Scotch-Irish, being excellent farmers, pushed west.I don’t know a lot about the northern Nickles families except that we were all related from the Mac Nicol Clan (Maik Niecael)in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
