BARRIE - Jean. The family of Jean Barrie is saddened to announce her passing on March 2, 2005, after a brief illness. Jean was born in Rosetown on April 24, 1916, the second child of Jack and Stella Nicolson. In her earlier years, Jean was a tomboy out of necessity as she had two brothers, one older and one younger. She was a very talented, creative person who loved to draw and sketch. She was also an avid photographer and has many, many pictures which we all love to pour over. Her photography was not appreciated until later years when her family found them to be so enjoyable. Mom was a beautiful young woman, and that beauty carried on until her passing. She met a handsome young man, Harold Barrie, in the early 1940's and they were married on June 23, 1942. For the first few years of their marriage, Harold was in the Air Force and stationed at several places in Canada. In December of 1944, Harold and Jean had a daughter, Gaye, and in August of 1947, a son Grant. Harold was a partner in King's Store in Rosetown and Mom worked there with Dad. While raising a young family, Mom had a job, an immaculate home, a beautiful garden, and wonderful meals on the table. After Harold's ill health, they retired, opting to stay in Rosetown where their friends were. Harold passed away in May of 1997, and Jean moved into her condo where she lived on her own until her passing. She loved decorating it and making it a lovely, cozy home. Jean loved to play bridge, and at times, she played bridge two or three times a week. One of her great loves was music and she was a member of the Rosetown Coral Group for many years. She also loved having company and you didn't leave her home until you had some of her wonderful baking. But to Jean, family was the most important and she was interested in everything they did. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 1997; her son, Grant in 2001; her brother, Gerald and her parents. Jean is survived by her daughter, Gaye and son-inlaw Lorne Clarke; Gaye's children; Victoria Klassen (children Julian, Aidan, and Sinead), Brenda and Percy Zulynik (Brenda's children Sean and Rebekah), Kelly (son Brandon); and Grant's children, Bradley Barrie (Tina, and children Brayden and Kaleb), and Heather Barrie (fiancee Alan McGrath). She also leaves behind her brother, Bob Nicolson (Marguerite) of Sidney, BC and sister-in-law, Fern of White Rock, BC, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The memorial service was held on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. from the Rosetown United Church with Rev. Jan Coffey-Olson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean will be gratefully accepted for the Alex Ositis Foundation, P.O. Box 1251, Rosetown, SK, S0L 2V0. Clements' Rosetown Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
