I'm researching Sarah A Niles, wife of John Maynard.Born about 1786 in Vermont.Married John Maynard before 1813 likely in Vermont.Lived in Pike, Allegany, NY for some time before moving into Crawford County PA in 1834.Died after 1875.Mother of George W. Maynard (b. 1813 Vt, d. 16 Feb 1875, East Spring Cemetery, Crawford PA) from whose tombstone inscription I know her maiden name is Niles.Signed name as 'Sarah A Maynard' in a probate renunciation in Crawford county in 1875.
I don't have any direct ancestors for John Maynard (born New Hampshire about 1790) or for Sarah. Some indications that John could have been around Addison county Vt as a young man so I was working on a theory that Sarah could have been in William Niles family (Charlotte and Monkton Vt) but that does not seem to hold water as indications are he did not move to Vermont until 1792.
Sarah may have been the 'Sarah Minard' listed in the 1840 census living alone in Chelsea, Orange, Vt.John Maynard's 1840 census does not list a female in Sarah's age range. They are listed back together in the 1850 and 1860 census.
Would greatly appreciate any information about Sarah A Niles.
