Thomas (Emsley or Emslie) Niven - Ontario - 1850s
I am looking for information concerning Thomas Emsley Niven who may have resided in Freelton Ontario around 1858. He may have also lived in Galt (Cambridge) Ontario where he was possibly married to Catherine McLennan. Their son, James Alexander Niven (my G. Grandfather), was born in 1859 at Cambridge and died in 1899 at Petrolia.
Last year I did manage to locate the grave site of a Thomas Niven (b. 1840, d. 1913) in Harriston Ontario which is located very close to where James once worked and lived. I have no proof this Thomas is the same Thomas Emsley Niven I am looking for. After additional research research I have concluded this Thomas may have eventually been connected to the Sutherland family through marriage. The 1881 Ontario Census reveals this same Thomas, now a widower, had an older sister, Janet, who emigrated at a later time from Scotland and lived with him in Paisley Ontario.
I would be very interested to find out if the name Emsley or Emslie is connected to any other Niven researchers out there?
