Hi Kimberly, My husband's great-grandfather Francis (Frank) Noakes moved with his family to Ontario from Peasmarsh, Sussex, England in 1908. For some reason he changed his family name to Winton. However, other family members that moved to Canada in the early 1900s kept their family name of Noakes. For example, Bertram Noakes, Frank's brother also moved to Canada and once lived at 23 Manning St. in Toronto. His wife is listed as Ethel Mary (Unknown). As well, we know that either Bessie Noakes (a sister) or someone close to her was in Canada at some point, because her photo album as been found in Canada. I don't know of either a Jack or Dorothy Noakes but that is not to say that there is no connection. If you can get your grandfather's parents names, it would be a big help towards your search. Once you have names, you can check census', marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc., that will help you along. In most cases, a birth certificate lists the names of the parents. Good luck and if there is anything I can help you with please feel free to contact me.
