GROTON -- Gerald Noble, of Groton, Massachusetts, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the age of 87, after a short illness.
Born on July 26, 1922, in Newark, New Jersey, to Christian and Ruth Noble, Gerry graduated from Westside High School and attended Newark College of Engineering. He had a successful sales career in the field of electronics and communications with Motorola Corp., Hazeltine, and Multitone.
In December of 1949, Gerry attended a dance at the Ivanhoe Club where he met his sweetheart and future wife of 60 years, Mary Toal. After starting out in Newark and then Bridgeport, Connecticut, Gerry and Mary settled in Pines Lake, Wayne, New Jersey, where they raised 4 children. Over their 45 years in Pines Lake, Gerry participated in everything the area had to offer -- biking, swimming, talking with friends at the beach and skiing at the nearby slopes. He often remarked how lucky he was to live in such a beautiful place. He was a long-time congregant and active participant of St. Mary's Parish, Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, serving as an extraordinary minister and lector, and volunteered frequently in the community.
For the last five years, Gerry and his wife resided with their daughter and son-in-law in Groton, where he enjoyed being closer to his grandchildren, his twice daily bike rides around the neighborhood and weekly swims with the Seniors at the Groton School pool.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish.
No matter where he lived, Gerry enjoyed nothing more than sharing meals and spending time with his family, as well as winning at Scrabble, solving crossword puzzles and working on his lawn.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Noble of Groton; sons, Stephen and wife, Ann of Poland Springs, Maine; Patrick and wife, Lenore of Sunapee, New Hampshire; daughters, Mary Ellen and husband, Paul Cappucci of Groton, Massachusetts, Susan and husband, Paul Munson of Cohasset, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, Matt, Tim, Cristina, Michael, Stefanie, Molly, Zachary, and Melissa; brother, James, of Palm Springs, California; sister, Joan, of Boonton, New Jersey; as well as several nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Jack, his sister, June, and grandson, Nicholas
