I have obtained a genealogy of NOLFs in Brasil, i.e. the descendence of Louis NOLF born in Moen, Belgium in 1806, who married Marie Sophie KINDT. Louis went to Brasil to run a railroad project, I understand, and came back to Belgium. One of his sons, ODON, settled in Brasil and is author of a large NOLF descendence there, with also a branch in the US. This genealogy was written by Luiz Ivon NOLF VENTURA, living in Sao Paulo. I have it in a file I could send to you if you give me your E-mail address.
Searches are being conducted at the Archives in Kortrijk, Belgium, about earlier ancestry of our NOLF family. At that occasion we found the following ancestry of Louis NOLF of Moen:
Louis is son of JEAN-BAPTISTE NOLF, born in Moen 3 July 1774 and MARIE JOSEPHE PAUWELS, Jean-Baptiste is son of EMMANUEL JOSEPH NOLF, born in Moen 5 October 1743 and MARIE FRANCESCA DELBECKE, Emmanuel Joseph is son of JEAN BAPTISTE NOLF, born in approx 1710 and MARIE CATHERINE DE RYCKE, born in Moen, Jean Baptiste is son of MICHAEL NOLF, born in approx. 1680.
No connection has been established to this date between the two families. Only direct ancestry was looked for so far.
We have also found evidence that in our instance the NOLF name changed from NODOLF in 1520-1550, as the contraction found in Rodolphe to Rolf...Has anyone knowledge of similar changes ? Thank you for any input!
We further found a contract of that period for the purchase of two houses in the Brugstraat in Kortrijk, Belgium, by a JOHANNES NOLF... as part of the contract Johannes had to lit two candles every year in the main church for the seller...
Sincerely, Jean-Marie NOLF, Korbeek-Lo B-3360, BELGIUM
