I am Larry N. Norred, Jr. and have recently revived a search for my line of Norreds. I would like to share with you all what I have found in the dual hopes that I can learn more and make connections and that someone else can find what I have found as useful. What I know, of my line is as follows:
1. Wesley M. NORRED* b.1824 in Ala. (? Where) Son of (?) parents from South Carolina M. Emily S. NORRED b. abt. 1833 in Ga. Settled in the Chandler Springs community in Talladega County (later Clay County).
Children were; (1a) Mary NORRED b. 1850 in Ala. (1b) William Preston NORRED b.1854 Ala. (See his Descendants below) (1c) Elizabeth NORRED b. 1858 Ala. (1d) Louisa NORRED b. 1860 Ala. m. Martin P. NELSON 12/27/1877 by minister M.T. Pace in home of Wesley M. NORRED (1e) Emma NORRED b.1866 in Ala. (1f) Ella NORRED b. 1869 in Ala. (1g) Fannie NORRED b. 1875 in Ala.
*Listed in 1860 Alabama Census as "Farmer"; on 1870 as "Wagoner" and 1880 as "Farming" under the Occupation Code. Land holdings dropped as years went by.
2. William Preston NORRED* (1b) b. 3/1854 only son of Welsey M. and Emily S. NORRED. m. Sarah (Johnson) NORRED b. 5/1866 in Ga. (? Where) stayed in the Chandler Springs community on border of Talladega and Clay counties.
Children were; (2a)John Welsey NORRED b. 1879 m. Sadie b. 1882 had Children; Nettie b.1902; Lewis b. 1904 and William P. b. 1907. They moved to Talladega proper (town) and their descendants are still there. John, Sadie are buried in Oak Hill Cemetary in town of Talladega, Ala. (2b)Thomas Jefferson "Dick" NORRED b. 3/1883 m. Inez NORRED b. 1893 moved to Shelby County, Ala. as listed in 1910 Alabama Census and are buried in the Trace Crossings Missionary Baptist Church graveyard south of Hwy. 150 in what is now Hoover, Ala. Had children but I do not know all. (2c) William Earl NORRED b. 12/19/1884 m. Lela Amret (Goodwin) NORRED b. 12/10/1889. Buried in the Sulphur Springs Baptist Chusrch graveyard in Trussville, Ala. (see Descendants below) (2d) Maggie NORRED b. 4/1888 (2e) Celesta NORRED b. 10/1889 (2f) Zacharia NORRED b. 5/1892 (2g) Fannie May NORRED b. 5/1896 m. 1st husband Howard Smith moved to N.C. later 2nd m. moved to Calif. (2h)Jason NORRED b. 1/1900 later lived with uncle W.A. London in Talladega. Served in Mexican Border 1916 with 2nd Ala. Infantry Co. H, then in WWI overseas with Co. F, 167th Inf. Regiment. I have his Service Record. Beleived to have been accidentally shot / killed by one of his brothers in the 1920's. (Auth. a NORRED desc.) (2i) Edward Dewey NORRED b. 3/26/1901 m. Bessie Mae (Cloninger) NORRED. Buried in Cedar Hill Cemetary off Adger Rd. in Bessemer, Ala. Had a son William Edward NORRED b. 2/27/1927 m. Mary Ann (Wiggins) NORRED b. 11/23/1933. Their sons are David NORREDb.1/26/1962d.6/28/1999. m. Nancy Elizabeth Besse NORRED They have a son and two daughters. and R. Dale NORRED b. 6/4/1967.
3. William Earl NORRED (2c)b. 12/19/1884 m. Lela Amret (Goodwin) NORRED b.12/10/1889.
He settled in the Jefferson County / B'ham area. Worked in Farming (early) and at Avondale Textile Mill where he retired (later).
(3a) Earnest Preston NORRED b. 11/5/1910 m. Faye Elizabeth (Dinwiddie)NORRED b. 1908 in McKenzie, TN. Both buried in Forest Lawn cemetary - Birmingham. (See Decendants below) (3b) Frank Edward "Penny" NORRED (3c) Paul "Pug" NORRED (3d) Luther Elijah "Bill" NORRED (3e) Ruby NORRED - only Daughter m. Jay Burkett had son Cary and daughter Sheila.
4. Earnest Preston NORRED (3a)b. 11/5/1910 m. Faye Elizabeth Dinwwiddie NORRED b.1908 in McKenzie, TN. Served in 117th Infantry; 30th Div., worked in CCC, Pennsylvania R.R. and at City Schools. Resided mainly in Birmingham, Ala.
(4a) Larry Norman NORRED, Sr. b. 2/11/1938 in McKenzie, TN. on 3/20/1964 m. Joan Charlotte(Roper) NORRED b.7/21/1943. had 3 children; Larry, Jr. b. 3/7/'65 Laura Joan b. 5/21/'70 and Julie Marie b. 1/28/'76. (4b) Thomas Charles NORRED (4c) James Edward NORRED
I really would like to make a connection of Wesley M. Norred to his family from South Carolina. I want to know who his parents and siblings were. There seem to be so many Prestons floating around, I really think that there is a tie-in somehow.
Also, I live in Birmingham and have access to the wonderful Lynn-Hensley public library with all of the old Alabama records. I can help if anyone needs something in particular.
