Colin Farrell has already written the Nored forum with the news of his y-dna match to some men named Nored. These Noreds also match a gentleman from Kent England named Norwood. All of these individuals match a group of Dorseys from the early settler of Maryland who descend from a man who is believed to have been the illegitimate son of an Andrew Norwood, grandson of Maryland immigrant John Norwood.
We have discovered that our American Norwoods, whom we previously believed to be descendants of one family line in England, are actually have different genetic origins, probably from a number of unrelated families with the surname Norwood.
We have seen a lot of evidence to suggest that the name was pronounced without the 'w' early on and some alternate spellings, like Norred, Norrod, Norrid, etc., have been found, sometimes with one 'r'.
I wanted to share this information and encourage any male Norreds to consider joining the Norwood Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA (though there are other testing companies to choose from). The link to the site and the Norwood Y-DNA Project are below. Joining the Norwood project affords a discount; however, a Norred project could be started as well if preferred.
