I've seen a lot of Metcalf-Norris connections in my own research, so your post caught my attention.
There is a Nancy Norris listed as the wife of George Miller of Holmes County in "History of Ashland County, Ohio with Illustrations and Biographical Sketches" by George William Hill, M.D. - Published by Williams Bros. 1880.It does not say whether she was previously married to Thomas Metcalf, but she did hail from Mohican Township, which would have been in Wayne County in 1829 (it became part of Ashland County in the mid-1840s).
This information is found under the biographical sketch of William Norris.According to the biography, William was born in 1781 in Maryland. In 1805 he married Mary Hornoc. He came from Huntingdon County, PA in 1823.There are land ownership maps from Mohican/Mohecan Twp (it was spelled both ways at different times I suppose) that show "Wm. Norris."I have not yet been able to find any information regarding Mary Hornoc, other than her one mention in this biography of William.
Given this, if Nancy is this William's daughter, she was probably born in Huntingdon County, PA between 1805 and 1815, and moved to Mohican Twp with her father in 1823... which would have put her there in plenty of time to meet and be courted by Thomas Metcalf.
I am a descendant of John D Norris, born 1819 in Huntingdon County, PA and died 1897 in Wayne County, OH.I believe my John D's father was named William.I'm trying to find out if he's the same William listed in this biography, because the biography lists John as one of William's yet-living children along with Nancy the wife of George Miller. If this is the case, John D would be Nancy's kid brother... so if you can confirm that or find out anything more, please let me know.
