Courtney (Northcutt) McOwan
Hannibal, MO — Courtney (Northcutt) McOwan, 103, of Hannibal, died at 5:53 a.m. Sun. Jan. 9, 2011, at Beth Haven Nursing Home. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel with Rev. Helen McFarland officiating. Burial was at Barkley Cemetery in New London. Mrs. McOwan was born Oct. 1, 1907, in Ralls County to Samuel Ewing and Maggie Janet (Crandall) Northcutt. She married Clarence B. McOwan Aug. 1, 1934, and he preceded her in death Sept. 1, 1973. Survivors include, one niece, Sharon Halsey and husband George, O’Fallon, Ill.; two great-nieces, Kristen Hansel and husband Todd, Edwardsville, Ill., and Robyn Buck and husband Chris, Fenton, Mo.; four great-great-nephews and other relatives. Mrs. McOwan was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wilbur Northcutt and L. Lloyd Northcutt; and one sister, Pansy Young. Mrs. McOwan grew up in the area of Centenary in Saverton Township in Ralls County and was a descendant of the pioneering Northcutt family. She was the grand-daughter of James Thomas Northcutt and Mary (Ewing) Northcutt. She was the step grand-daughter of Maria Ann(Glascock) Northcutt. Mrs. McOwan was the oldest member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and sang in the church choir for many years. She previously was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Saverton Township in Ralls County in her earlier years. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in care of Smith Funeral Home & Chapel.
