My GGgrandfather was Laurence Albert George Noullet who was born in Altenstadt, France in 1837 and immigrated to New Orleans, LA in Oct. 1851.He married Maria Post from Bremen Prussia. They had several children:Helena Magdalena Lorentine Noullet, Anna Fredericka Noullet, Maria Henrietta Emilia Noullet, and Albert L. Hermann Noullet.Emilia was my Ggrandmother.
Laurence died in 1876 of pneumonia and lead poisoning, leaving his family in dire straights. He had managed a bar which is referred to as a coffee house.A cousin of mine has found he died in either Jacob or Francois' residence.I can't remember which at the moment. For many years after his death the family lived in Fink Asylum for Protestant Widows and Orphans.I have Laurence's baptismal records from Altenstadt. He was baptized a Catholic, so I assume Maria Post, his wife, was a German protestant.
There are several other Noullets in New Orleans at the same time.Francois and Jacob are married to Johanna Weltz and Catherine Schaffer, respectively.Between them they named their children Jacob, Laurent, Albert George Alexander, Elizabeth Eva, Eva Augustine, Margaret Louisa, Magdalena Elizabetha, Joseph Frederick, Frank Antoine.
There is a Jacob O. married to a Marie Vaudlet and a Michel married to Catherine Aezermann. I believe he is the son of the before mentioned Jacob.
Do you have any idea how these people fit together and how they came to be in New Orleans?
My Ggrandmother married Lewis Girdner Rickey in 1891 in New Orleans and moved to Memphis, TN before the turn of the century.By the time she died she had dropped the Maria and had become Emelia Henrietta Noullet Rickey.
I am so excited to see there is someone else out there who descends from the Noullets of New Orleans.I would be happy to exchange more information.
Emelia Presley Hawk (named after Maria Henrietta Emilia Noullet)
