My great great uncle was named Anton Novak. He was from Slovenia. He came thru Ellis Island in the early 1900's. He went to Cleveland, Ohio from NYC. I believe he went to live with one of his brothers, Mika "Mike."There is also a sister or possibly sister-in-law named Jennie Novak. There were supposedly 17 children. I don't know how many came here. Their father's name was Frank as well - we assume, since Anton's brother was documented as Frank F Novak, jr. I don't know the name of their mother. Their parents never came here; their mother was killed in an air raid in the 1940's - while she was at work as a postmaster in Slovenia. He and his brother were homesteaders in Montana; he and his brother, Frank Frederick Novak, joined the US Army in Cherry Patch, Montana.Their cousins, the Modics, are still in Montana. Anton & Frank served in the US Army during WWI. He married Amelia "Millie" in Cleveland at St Vitus Church. They had a daughter, Millie, who died of appendicitis. Anton's brother, Frank (my great grandfather), married Ivana Suhadolnik (from Slovenia; she had a brother named John in Cleveland; he owned a tavern) in Cleveland. She took the name of Jennie Novak - we assume she took this name to hide from the government, since it is the same name as the above-mentioned sister. My great grandmother, Jennie, was deported when she was 12 or 13 years old, because she would not go to school. She said she was living above her brother's tavern. She never spoke much of her family. She lived her entire life in fear of being sent back to Slovenia. She never registered as a voter and most census information states she is her husband's sister, which is false.Jennie did not keep in touch with her family here in Ohio.We know very little about them. Jennie and Frank had 2 children - Frank and George. Frank married Blanche Mierzwa; they had 2 kids = Rich & Tom Blanche grew up in the coal mining regions of Pennsylvania. George married Virginia - they did not have any children. George died at the age of 32 or respiratory failure. Virginia died 10/21/09 from a stroke. Any information about the above-mentioned relatives would be much appreciated.
