I too trace my ancestry back to Joseph Nurcombe (Norcombe) and Joan, they were my gggggrand parents through my mothers side. I am decended through Joseph's son Benjamin. Benjamin's son Thomas moved to Bristol UK and married Mary Godfrey. Thomas was a carpenter and died as a result of injuries sustained in a fall from "the loft of the Jacob St Brewery" Newspaper articles show that he had been at work at the time....Unfortunately he died 31 July 1871 and so missed the birth of his son William John Nurcombe on 3 December 1871.
Having checked the Wiviliscombe parish records at Somerset record office, I have found the following possiblities for Joseph.
a Joseph G Nurcombe was christened to John & Mary Nurcombe on 16th April 1759 - Joseph we know was born about this time.
Joseph would then seem to have a sister Eliza Nurcombe christened 5th June 1761.
The only marriage listed of a John Nurcombe in wiveliscombe, at the time joseph father may have married, is that of John Nurcombe to Mary Fleed? (Surname in record is heavily smudged) on 13th May 1749.
Again the only record for a john being born in a suitable time frame for Joseph's father is John Nurcombe son of Robert & Mary Nurcombe Christened 4th April 1718.
Robert & Mary also have the followinfg children listed:
RobertChristened15th Jun 1716 Rogerchristened5th April 1723 MaryChristenedr/9 th/12 1725
The important question, as I am fairly new to family research is, can anybody suggest how I can confirm that these are Joseph's family?
