My mother's maiden name was Nurcombe, and although I have done no formal research into the family I do know of some facts passed down to me. All of this branch of the Nurcombe family are based in Brighton and Hove. My grandfather's name was William Nurcombe, and apparently either one of his uncles or brothers went to Canada around the turn of the century. One of my uncles did some research about 20 years ago and discovered two Nurcombe brothers buried next to each other in a village graveyard in Somerset, one of whom was a Weslayan preacher. Maybe this ties in with the religious theme. Anyway, there is only one Nurcombe left in this branch of the family now, my cousin David, but he has three daughters so it looks like the end for the Sussex Nurcombes! I wouild be interested if anyone had any info on this branch of the family.
