I am not sure which child of William and Sarah Knuttle you are searching for, but having worked on the Nuttle family for about 6 years I appreciate your fresh input.
As for William and Sarah daughter, Sara Ann: Per the Nuttle Reunion records she married a Mr. Sales ____________________________________________________________John Nuttle sold land in Wood county in 1851 to an Sara Ann Sayles. In the deed it states that Sara Ann Sayles was living in Allen County Indiana. This deed can be found on the Wood County Recorder of Deeds site. ( I can send you a copy if you like) ____________________________________________________________ 1850 United States Federal Census Name: Sarah SalesAge: 42Est. birth year: abt 1808 Birth Place:OhioGender: Female Home in 1850: Milan, Allen, Indiana Family Number: 1802 Name Age Lemuel Sales 76Maine Sarah Sales 42Ohio Sarah Ann Sales 10Indiana
I am quite comfortable with the identification of this Sara Ann as William and Sarah daughter, as in the 1850 census she is living beside her two brothers John Nuttle and George G. Nuttle. (My 2nd greatgrandfather) There is one problem in this; in the census data Sara Sales is listed as being born in Ohio but she and the rest of her siblings were born in New York.
This Sarah is not in the 1860 census for Milan Twp _________________________________________________________
While there are several Sarah Ann Sales (Sayles )in the 1860 census, I like the family that is in Erie Co. Ohio.
John Nuttle was married in Monroeville Ohio, and is mentioned on several land grants as being from Huron and Lorain Ohio. The Knuttle/Nuttle family appears to have moved from Broome Co New York, through Ohio, and ended up in Allen and Steuben Co Indiana.
If the above is correct the Sarah Sayles listed in 1860 is not Sara Ann Nuttle's daughter as her daughter Sara Ann in 1850 was 10 years old.
From my research if this John Nuttle age 17 and the grandson of William and Sarah, he could be the son of Ami which we have been discussing or the William Nuttle who was married in Wood Co Ohio. in Feb 09, 1841 to Elenor R Knowles.Little is know about William except there is another deed from Wood county that states he was living in St.Joseph Twp Allen Co Indiana in 1844. This would be a maximum of about 10 miles from the known home sites of John and George G. Nuttle at that time.
