William Oatman was my wife's ggg grandfather. In the 1850 Census, he was living in Southampton Township, Burlington County, NJ with his daughter Lydia and her husband, John A. Naylor.William's age was listed as 69 which would put his birth at ca 1781.Do you suppose we are talking about the same William Oatman? Oatman does not seem to be a prominent name in Burlington County. In the 1830 Census there is a William Oatman with the following household: 2 males, age 5-10, 1 male, age 40-50, and 1 female, age 30-40.Our Lydia appears to be 39 in the 1850 Census. The ages of her children indicate that she married John A. Naylor after 1830, yet a female in her age group does not appear in the 1830 Census for William or at least I don't think she does. There is a female listed in Williams 1830 household in the 20-30 age group, but it appears that the number was changed to 0.It isn't clear. Several Oatmans appear in Southampton in the 1850 Census that could be children of the 1830 Census William Oatman. They are: John, age 34, William, age 39, Joseph, age 30 and Mary A., age 16.This could be your Mary since I found eksewhere that she was born in 1834. I would be interested in your thoughts.
