If you can establish from death records what age he was then you can write to the central records office and get a birth certificate which will give you details of his parents and where he was born. There were a lot of changes in Cornwall from 1850 when tin mines became exhausted and many families migrated all over Britain and the world. The Cornish miners were the best in the world at the time and their expertise was much sought after.
