Caroline Elkins b ca. 1832 Georgia married Thomas J. Oden b.ca 1830 in Alabama.In 1850 The Elkins family was living in Kemper Co. MS.Caroline's parents were Erwin Elkins and Elizabeth Garrott.Caroline's brother Benjamin md. Susannah Pate who lived with her family in Clarke Co. MS very close to the Kemper Co. MS line.A wagon train formed and Thomas J. Oden and Caroline, Benjamin Elkins and his wife joined that wagon train, along with many others.They setteled in Leon Co. TX.Benjamin Elkins joined the Confederate Army when his only child was eight months old.Benjamin died in Birds Island Hospital in Richmond, VA of the measles and is buried at Oakwood Cem. in Richmond.About the time Benjamin died in VA. Caroline died in Leon Co. TX leaving children: a daughter Eliza b ca 1855 in TX,a son Elias b. ca. 1858 and a baby daughter Dorinda just 5 months old when the 1860 census was taken.Benjamin was my great great grandfather, his son William Ibra Elkins was my great grandfather.After the death of Benjamin and Caroline, Thomas J. Oden married Susannah Pate Elkins.She died in childbirth leaving only the one Elkins child.I would like to contact the descendants of Caroline and Thomas J. Oden. I have a lot of information on their Elkins ancestors. I will share.
