THIS WOULD INVOLVE AN EARLIER GENERATION THAN YOUR SPECIFIC REQUEST. Lets think about Docherty spelled variously, right?
In the 1850's a Margaret Dougherty (1833-1907) married a James McCormick (1835-1932).Her parents were James Dougherty (spelled various) and Mary McBride.I do not know where they lived. In 1861, Margaret (Dougherty) McCormick had a child, James McCormick (1861-1929) who was baptised at St. John's RC Church in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire Scotland. The sponsors at the baptism included a Catherine Dougherty. This may be of an older generation that you are looking at (25 years later).
James McCormick and wife Margaret (Dougherty) McCormick emigrated from Scotland to western Pennsylvania by 1866.James McCormick (1835-1932) was not from Kilmarnock, but from County Londdonderry. He and his parents had moved to Scotland BY 1851 -- I do not have an exact date but between 1845 and 1851.AGAIN, I have know knowledge of the immediate origin of my Margaret (Dougherty) McCormick (1833-1907) - I suspect she came to Kilmarnock from Ireland.I assume the Catherine Dougherty who sponsored her son's baptism in 1861 was somehow related. My direct e-mail [email protected] (spelled variously) is a surname usually associated with the Inishowen peninsula in County Donegal - but is common in Scotland and elsewhere in Ulster.Stay in touch.
