My grandfather's last name was Oliveira D'Sa, and he past that name down to his daughter (my grand mother). I'm wondering what the naming traditions were for the portugese, did Oliverira come from his mother's side?
There were a lot of Oliveira living in the area he was in (which is today's Multan, Pakistan). I know that was a big jewish community in India, most left when Israel was established, but most converted to Catholicism when the Inquisition came to Goa and other parts of India.
