John G. Omans
My great-grandaunt, Mary Frances Emery, was married to John Gardner Omans. He was born 2/9/1846 in Palmyra, NY and died 2/10/1884 in Buffalo, NY.He fought in the Civil War in Company K, 98th Infantry Regiment New York from 1861 to 1864. He was a canal boatman who owned his own boats. John (nickname Jack) and Mary lived in Buffalo, NY and had five children. They were: Maud, Emery, Jennie (married to Ernest Bollinger), Mary (aka Matie or Mae, married to ? Thornburgh) and Mabel (married to Charles Lotze).
Before marrying Mary he was married 3/13/1864 in Michigan to Blanche Gertrude Rhodes and they had a son Frank.
He had a brother George M. Omans born 1837 in Palmyra, NY and died 3/30/1883.George is buried with his wife Amelia Waters in Hillside Cemetery, Clarendon, Orleans County, New York.
I am trying to find the parents of John and George. There might be a connection to Jacob and Amelia (Begole) Oman of Orleans County but I can't document this.
If anyone has any information on this family I would really appreciate hearing from them.
