Looking for descendants of William Charles Opdenweyer, a Prussian immigrant to Louisiana in the 1860s, who started a cypress lumber and sawmill business in Livingston Parish about 1877. His brother, Otto M. Opdenweyer, was my great-grandfather. He was a cotton broker in Galveston, TX, where he died of TB in 1876. The name Opdenweyer is of Dutch origin, meaning "up the weir, or water." My particular family migrated from the Rhineland into Alsace Lorraine before coming to America.
