Interesting website. The first Orcutt was named William Orcutt. He came from Manchester England during the same time as the infamous Salem Witch Trials. He settled in the Boston vicinity. Orcutt was a nailmaker, which was a very lucrative business at that particular time as nails had to be made one at a time by hand. My great grandmother Molly Bates had the original Orcutt Bible passed down from her grandfather Dan Orcutt, great grandson of the first Orcutt. I remember seeing it as a child. It was very old,and Iwas facinated by the oddness of the Old English letter printing, and the many pages of handwritten notation with list of all the names of the Orcutt family members. The outside was made of very thick pieces of heavy brown leather, and it had thin strips of green metal across it in three places. Along with the bible were some old letters and land deeds. The old letters were particularly facinating because some had metal postage stamps on them. They had no envelopes, but were simply folded three times, sealed with wax, and the stamps pressed into the wax.I am interested in researching the individuals that were involved on both sides during in Salem Witch Trials, and I would like to hear from anyone that has information on that subject.
