"William (b. Jan 24, 1793 in CT; d. Sep 24, 1874 in CT) was the s/o Stephen Orcutt (b. May 19, 1797 in CT; d. Mar 27, 1841 in CT) and Mary Washburn (b. Apr 15, 1762 in CT; d. Apr 15, 1860 in CT. William was one of ten children to Stephen and Mary."
I read with interest your post.I am descended from Stephen and Mary (Molly) Washburn and did not have William as one of their children.I was curious as to a source for placing William witht Stephen and Mary, as the "Florence Julia Brown" genealogy has a son Warren born to Stephen and Mary on 06 Oct. 792, and William's birth in January 1793 would be too close to have happened.
BTW, in an interesting turn, decendants of Stephen and Mary (Molly) are doubly related to the original William Orcutt through Mary Washburn, who's grandfather Solomon Washburn married Martha Orcutt, daughter of William Orcutt and Hannah Smith.
Also, if you believe the records showing that William Orcutt married Hannah Newton (I for one don't as certain records suggest William is buried beside his wife Hannah Smith and also because Newton genealogies do not show William as marrying Hannah Newton), David was one of three sons of William and Hannah Newton, the other two being Caleb and Moses.
And while we are at it, descent from Stephen and Mary (Molly) provides for membership in both the SAR/DAR and the Mayflower Society (Stephen fought in the Rev. and is descended from Mary Chilton and Isaac Allerton of the Mayflower)
Thanks for posting the line, I have been putting off entering this William in my database since I had no where to put him and didn't want to complicate things by identifyign him as a different William.
