Your post is as exciting to see as any hit can be! My name is Sharon O'Reilly and I have been searchng for information about my O'Reilly line for many years. I was at a road block almost as soon as I started until just a few months ago when a granddaughter of my GGrandfathers brother contacted me. The farthest we have gotten is the birth year of my GGGrandfather Peter O'Reilly b.1808 in Cavan,Ireland (written on his tombstone.) We have learned that his wife Catharine Daly b.1811 Cavan,Ireland(written on Stone) and the first 6 of their children crossed the ocean with themin 1841 and arrived in New York Dec 6,1841 on the vessel Sylvanus Jenkins. Both parents Peter and Catharine ("Riley"last name as it appears on manifest list) age is written 35 with the children Michael 12 Catherine 10 Mary 8 Ann 6 John 4 and Mathew 1.We were quite surprised to find that they came through New York. Our assumption was that their voyage was direct from (Ireland),Liverpool to Canada. They settled and lived out their lives in Chambly,Quebec.(near montreal) All canadian census states 1843 as their arrival.Never questioned they could have landed in the states first. It does not appear that any O'Reilly/Daly's came with them. Although there are other O'Reilly's that settled in Chambly as well.No proof that they are related. Checked church records and our Peter is not a witness for any baptism, marriage, or Burial for them. The only record we have from Ireland is a marriage date of Sept 27,1827 in Cavan,Cavan Ireland.Should I assume I need to go back one more generation before you may be able to help me? I would very much appreciate any suggestions that could help our search continue. Many thanks for all the hard work you have done for the family lineages.
Best regards, Sharon O'Reillyoreilly4@sbcglobal.net
