According to family records I am descended from Sophese Docille Desano Ortego (b. about 1834, d. 1868-70) who was married to Joseph Hamilton (b. 1827 Opelousas, m. 2nd Sarah Elizabeth Sweet about 1869-70). In looking at Father Hebert's Southwest Louisiana Records it seems most likely from names and dates that Sophese was the daughter of Joseph Dorsineau Ortego and Cephise Landreneau who married in Opelousas in 1833. Indeed Southwest Louisiana Records lists a daughter of this couple named Celise (variant spelling?) Ortego born 28 June 1834. If I can clearly identify Joseph Dorsineau Ortego and Cephise Landreneau as the parents of Sophese Docille Desano Ortego I can get back a number of generations. Here's how they would go:
Joseph Dorsineau Ortego son of Joseph Marie Ortego and Marie Guillory (m. 1814). Joseph Marie Ortego son of Joachim Ortego and Marie Soto y St. Denis. Marie Guillory daughter of Pierre Guillory of Mobile and Marie Josephe Fontenau. Pierre Guillory son of Joseph Guillory and Marie LaCase. Marie Josephe Fontenau daughter of Phillip Fontenaut and Marie Brignac.
Cephise Landreneau daughter of Joseph Landreneau and Helene Juneau.
Is this your line? Was this family in Ville Platte? Were they in Opelousas previously? Do you have any records of a possible sibling of Ulgere named Sophese Docille Desano Ortego who married Joe Hamilton? Joe and Sophese Hamilton had a daughter named Louisa Phrobian (Ferbian) Hamilton born about 1860. I don't definitely know where in LA. I thought Opelousas, but it could have been Ville Platte. It looks like after Sophese died Joe Hamilton moved to the Grant/Palestine LA area and married 2nd Sarah Elizabeth Sweet around 1869-70. I know that when Louisa Ferbian Hamilton first moved to the Grant/Palestine LA area she was still speaking French. Please contact me if we're related.
