Found this info on this set of Owensbys from another researcher.
At least two Owensby (Ownby, Onsby, Owenby) families migrated to East Tennessee. The first and most prolific was John Owensby born in Rutherford County NC, son of Johny Owensby, who moved to Sevier County (Gatlinburg area) in the early 1800's. A later Owensby family (Thomas Owensby) moved to Roane County and then to White/Cumberland county. I also suspect at least two other Owensby lines that I suspect came from Kentucky and Virginia.
I did find a Walter Owensby in Rutherford NC 1790.
