There was a Zadoc Packard, born 14 Jan 1795, died 15 Apr 1832 and buried in Buffalo Baptist Old Cemetery, Union Co., South Carolina. (Ref. V. Lord, Rindge, New Hampshire, Dec. 1998). Zadoc (a.k.a. Zadock, Zaddock, Zadok) also lived in North Carolina but was probably born in Massachusetts where I believe his parents were living at the time. I do not know when, why, or how Zadoc, Jr., went to the Carolinas..
Zadoc married a Mary Logan who was born 18 Aug 1793 in Mass. and died 6 Jan 1879 in North Carolina. Zadoc and Mary are the progenitors of a large number of Packards in southeastern United States, most of whom are not known to me. (Ref. Alan Packard of Olathe, Kansas, now deceased). I do not have the marriage date of Zadoc and Mary but estimate it was in the 1820Õs nor do I have any other information on Logan people.
Zadoc and Mary had a son, William Marion Packard, born 11 July 1827 at York, York Co., South Carolina and died 9 Aug 1894 in North Carolina. He married Sarah C. Lattimore about 1853, based upon the approximate birth date, 1854, of their first child, John Zadock. Sarah was born 14 Dec 1833 in North Carolina and died there 13 Jun 1911. William and Sarah are buried in Lattimore Cemetery, Polkville, Cleveland Co., North Carolina. (Ref. G. Roselle; "Roselle-Jones Family Tree;" Ancestry World Tree: 4 May 2003.) I do not have information on other possible children of Zadoc and Mary.
John Zadoc Packard married Susan E. Elliott 19 Dec 1878 in North Carolina. John and Susan had a daughter Sarah in North Carolina but I have no more data on them.
William and Sarah had the following children after John Zadoc: Mary E., Martha A., Rachel, Josephine, Sarah, William Legrande, Dorcas A., Julia E., James Reid, Julius C., Knox Hill, and Minnie. See "Roselle-Jones Family Tree" for dates and some spouses. No connection to Arkansas is mentioned therein. However, there are living descendants of James Reid referenced who might be identified by contacting G. Roselle and who may have more family data.
I have no record of a Delilah Wood. I have a half dozen Packards with a connection to Arkansas, none in Montgomery Co. and none with a known connection to the Carolinas. I can give you the Packard ancestry and siblings of Zadoc Packard, born 14 Jan 1795, if you wish. His father was Zadoc Packard; there may very well have been other Zadoc Packards in this line.
I have two Jasper Packards. One was born in 1832 in Ohio and died in 1855 in Indiana. He was son of a Thomas Packard of Pennsylvania. The other was Jasper C. Packard who married Ruth Little 19 March 1937 in Connecticut; nothing more on Jasper C. in my files.
I hope the above information will help your research. Perhaps other readers of this message board can confirm, correct, or supplement this thread.
