Hi Dick--
I think we exchanged information a while back. We're actually talking about two different Lucindas and two different Philips, but perhaps closely related.
The Philip in my message was born abt. 1753 (where?) and died in 1830 in Greene, Chenango Co., NY.He had a daughter named Lucinda born about 1794 in Vermont, as well as several sons born in New York.
You know all about your Philip (1790-1874) and his daughter Lucinda, of course.I believe that Philip of Greene (1753-1830) was the Philip Paddleford who lived in Brattleboro between 1770 and 1790, where he had as children your Philip of Chester, Lydia (1790-1833)and Roswell (1780-1825)of Marlboro, perhaps a few others. He then remarried, leaving his children of his first marriage behind in Vermont and moved to New York, where he was first recorded in the 1790s.
There are many common names between the two branches (Philip, Lucinda, Lydia, Roswell, Newell, etc.), but none of his "NY" children repeat the names of his "VT" children. So while Philip of Greene has five known sons in NY, none are named Philip or Roswell, although one of his NY GRANDchildren was named Roswell, for example.
I have no hard evidence of this theory as of yet, but everything seems to mesh very closely so far.Perhaps if I investigate deeds in NY and VT I might find a connection.
It has been further suggested that Philip of Greene (1753-1830) was the illegitimate son of Philip Padelford (1722-1753) of Taunton, Mass., and Lydia Gardner, but I don't have evidence for that, either.
