Hello all In my ancestry, I have a "double-dose" of the Paddock line, although my family name is Howard. The name ELIPHALET was my Dad's name, my Grandfather's name, and my great-grandfather on the maternal side (ELIPHALET Edmunds). The way my tree reads is: #1. Robert Paddock -1605 and Mary Holmes - 1613 had son John - 4/1/1643 who married Anna Jones; daughter Mary Paddock b 1/16/1675 m Joseph Salisbury b 5/5/1675 and had son; Joseph Salisbury Jr. b 6/30/1707 who m Innocent Head b 3/13/1712 and had son; Gideon Salisbury b 8/20/1732 who m Prescilla Shaw b 3/11/1731 and had son; Joseph Salisbury b 6/1/1771 who m Phebe Westbrook b 3/11/1772 and had daughter Priscialla Salisbury b 5/17/1795 who m Alonson Howard b 11/2/1793 and had son; Alonson Bingley Howard b 8/29/1823 who m. Cynthia Coryell Edmunds b 10.19/1832........... #2: Robert Paddock -1605 and Mary Holmes - 1613 had daughter Alice b 3/7/1638 who m Zachariah Eddy and had son; Zechariah Eddy b 4/10/1664 who m Mercy Baker b 1666 and had daughter; Alice Eddy b 1/5/1693 who married Obadiah Jencks b 1684 and had son; John Jenks b 1716 who m Abigail Knowlton b 1718 and had daughter; Abigail Jenks b 1742 who m. James Edmunds b 1731 and had son; Andrew b 6/17/1760 who m Huldah King b 3/13/1765 and had son; ELIPHALET Edmunds b 4/10/1786 who married (second wife) Elizabeth Coryell b 1798 and had daughter; Cynthia Coryell Edmunds b 10/19/1832 who m Alonson Bingley Howard b 8/29/1823 and had son.......etc, to my Dad (who was the last male Howard in our line). This means, of course that after 7 generations on the John's (brother's) line, and 8 generations on the Alice's (sister's) line, cousins (far-fetched) married one another. That makes both myself and my sister our own cousin, and my children are my half cousins! Wierd!!!
In the Edmunds family I have seen the name ELIPHALET several times, but in my research I came across it earlier in the Paddock or Paddoc line.Does anyone have any information on this unusual name?
Any information available would greatly be appreciated. What a family!
