Thanks, I had never heard of any Padens stemming from Padians in Ireland. All thePeden families from Ireland that settled in Colonial America (PA, SC, and VA) had numerous descendants using the Paden variation of the name. The Paden variation used by these descendants may be as common in the US as the original Peden spelling.
Also I have come across the Spanish surname Padin that is found in various countries including Puerto Rico. Also in the area of Germany near Holland, and in Holland itself, the name Paden is rare but sometimes encountered. (In German pfaden means paths and Paden in Dutch means the same, I believe.)
