About ten years ago I was in Elijay, Georgia(Gilmer County) I think. I met Andrew Jackson Painter at a time when he was burying a large fish in his yard to b e used for fertilizer, he told me.I had an interesting conversation with him concerning Painter history. One thing he mentioned to me was that his grandmother was Chief Walkingstick's daughter. If I understood him correctly his grandmother was Cherokee. As a side note Andrew lived at that time near the site of the stockade used to put the Native Americans in to hold for removal to the West (Trail of Tears). There is a possibility Ezekiel Painter who was in the Gold Lottery was kin to Andrew. Ezekiel, the son of Adam Painter of Washington County, Tn was baptized at the Hebron Lutheran Church in Orange County, Va. in 1776. His brothers and sisters included John, Aaron,William,Adam,David,Jessee, Philip,Samuel, Nathaniel, Sally(Married John Gann),Polly(who married Aaron Bowman.)- From Shenandoah and Orange County, Virginia records and Washington County. Tn records.
