Until your posting, I hadn’t come across the name PALCIT, but it certainly could be a variation of PALCIC. If your ancestors came from the Croatia/Slovenia area of Europe, the chances are probably very good. [In Europe, where the name presumably started, the “c’s” have little marks over them which makes them different letters with a different sound.] So far I have found known variations that include PALCIE, PALSIC, and PALCICH; and possible variations, PALSIK and PALCIK.
As far as the meaning and origin of the name PALCIC are concerned, we have found that the name means “thumb”, and it evolved from the nickname “Palac”. This could indicate someone of small physical stature or someone with a distinctive looking thumb. The “ic” at the end of the name means “son of”. One account has the name originating about 600 years ago on the Croatian island of Pag. There is also another possible origin in Slovenia in the year 1519, but we don’t know much about that yet. You can read more about this in the postings of Jakov and myself, which you will find in the forum.
I did not find any listing for PALCIT in the United States directories that I checked, but did find some in Canada.
