My mother, Ethel (Palmiter) Stone had a brother named Laverne "Vern" Walter Palmiter (1895-1954) of Dalton, PA. He was a WWI vet and employed in the coal mining industry around Scranton. His wife was Blanche. I suspect that the use of the name "Laverne" for a boy indicated it was a maternal family surname back up the family tree somewhere. Since I think Palmiter (or Palmetter) is a Hugenot name I am open to "LaVerne" being a Hugenot surname, too. I have a Laverne Palmiter in Madison or Chenago Co., NY born abt. 1860 but no link to NE PA Palmiters. Any thoughts?
