Hello, My name is Bryan J. Howard and I am trying to unravel some family mysteries.I am tracing the Pannell (Pannill) side of my family which originates in Campbell County, Virginia. So far I know that I am descended from Sam (1825 - aft. 1900) and Sarah Pannill (abt. 1834 - aft. 1900 possibly Cherokee).Sam and Sarah are both listed as "Black" in the 1870 census living with 6 Children: John age 14 Martha age 11 Robert age 8 (my great grandfather) Morris (Maurice) age 6 (married Charlotte and had one daughter Plascid) Charles H. age 3 Sam age 6 months
There were 2 other children not listed in the census: Nathaniel (married Rosetta L. Powell) Mary
According to the 1900 census, Sam and Sarah had 8 children of whom 7 were still living.
My mother said that her Grandfather (Robert Cicero/Carson Pannell/Pannill) told her that his father, Sam was "half English"
I am trying to find out as much as I can about my family.I believe that they may have been linked to the slaveholder, Sam Pannill of the Green Hill plantation in Campbell county.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Bryan J. Howard
