I found the 1850 census I was looking for.The family appears to be in Seveir county Tennessee in 1850.Thanks to a census enumerator from Cherokee County NC in 1860, we know that Jacob and Angeline had a daughter born there in 1851.That census lists Jacob PANTHER age 35 born Rutherford Co NC Linny [a good nickname for Angeline] age 36 born Buncombe Co NC Lovada [1860 shows her as Melissa L.] age 10 born Macon Co NC A.B. [male] age 8 born Macon Co NC Z.W. [male] age 6 born Macon Co NC V.A. [female] age 2 born Macn Co NC
The V.A. is listed as Vina A in 1860.The Z.W. isn't on the 1860, so he probably was own his own by then.
What is the birth date of your Samuel Augustus?
Oh - I believe but haven't proved yet - that the Eliza Alice SHEPARD who married Jacob's brother John, was a sister to the Angeline who married Jacob.
I've not reserached Eliza LOVINGOOD who married Alfred Burton PANTHER yet since Alfred is cousin and not direct line for me.But I am gonna to do some research on her now to see where the BOYD surname comes in.
As for the Alfredwho married Eliza and the one who married Mary EVANS being the same, I am not so sure.I have found no evidence of a divorce for Alfred and Eliza. They are together on the 1880 census and on the 1900.
Now the Alfred B. [have no evidence so far that this B stood for Burton] and Mary D EVANS had the following children: Manda born 1885 Benjamin Harrison born 1887 Felix B born 1889 William M born 1892/1898 Julia born 1895.
This family has been so CONFUSING to say the lease, with the surname being PAINTER, PANTHER, PANTER, BANTHER, BENDER - makes it kinda tough to put them where they belong on this tree of mine!!
If you care to discuss this family directly, my addy is firstname.lastname@example.org
Will get back to you soon as I found out some thing about Eliza LOVINGOOD, Mary D. EVANS, the BOYD surname in connection the the PANTHER surname.
