Herbert Lyle Parry, 86, died Monday, May 10, at his home in Atalissa.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today (Thursday, May 13), at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. Burial be set at a later date.
Herbert was born April 15, 1924, in Goshen Towhship in Muscatine County, to Harrison C. and Maude M. (Rockafellow) Parry. On Oct. 14, 1945, Herbert married Virginia F. O’Haver, in Iowa City.
Herbert graduated from West Liberty High School in 1942. While in high school, he served as the FFA president from 1941-42. After high school, he engaged on the family farm. Once he retired, he enjoyed making things from wood for his family. During the week, one could find him in West Liberty, talking and visiting with his friends. On nice days, he could be found mowing his yard, his parent’s yard and a few other yards in the area.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Parry; four children, Donna Parry, Janice (Douglas) Tuttle, Lyle (Terri) Parry and Rebecca (Michael) Pigsley; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one niece.
