Hi, I am researching Paschens though from what I recently read in a letter sent to my grandmother by her great aunt it's possible that the name was changed when the family came to the US.
I am able to go as far back as Frederick Paschen who is estimated to be born around 1850. The letter said he was born in West Prignitty, Germany; however, since I cannot find such a place I'm wondering if she meant West Prignitz in Brandenburg, Germany? Frederick married Sophia Larsen (she came from Copenhagen, Denmark) around 1870 in Missouri. Their son, William Augustus Bernard Paschen (my 2nd great grandfather), was born in St. Joseph, MO in Oct 1872. He was the oldest of the children. Other children were Herman (b. 1875), Anna (b. 1880), Fannie (b. 1883), and Frederick Louis (b. 1884.)
The family story is that Frederick was in the same army company with Kaiser Wilhelm, whom he also had a friendship with. Frederick was a ship designer. He was in many duels with men of means but one such duel led to his banishment from Germany. My grandmother's great aunt tried to obtain records of Frederick but supposedly no one by that name was found in the German army. However, this letter dates back to the 1960s so who knows if something has come up by now.
I'm interested in finding other Paschens that I might be related to and if anyone has similar stories?
