Barry Florance's mother was a Bowdan, and my friend in Anaheim is connected to her thru her Scher mother. I think it was Sandy that asked Brad to look into her and her husband's side.
Mate email me at whitehead_colin@hotmail.com and i will fire off a register report from Gootman on down, a fair bit of what i found was from Sharkey on rootsweb site.
these are the notes I added to Simeon Aaron Matthews,
"The 1901 census has Simeon Aaron Matthews following Moses and Sophia he is 22, a traveller cj, born in Russia his wife is Rina she is 19 and born in Austria. [Just to confuse things] the next two people in the house are Anna Pass 70 mother in law, and J Matthews 60 Mother, both are Russian born widows?
[Perhaps Anna Pass is his grandmother Chya? But if he is son of Moses and Sophia could J Matthews be his wife's mother?]
The marriage for Aaron Simeon Matthews and Bina Bell needs to be obtained, it took place in the March qtr 1901 at GatesheadDurham, Tyne And Wear district."
Your suggestion that Anna is mother in law to Moses and that J Matthews is his mother makes sense, guess the enumerator got it wrong.
They have Goodwin instead of Gootman for Douglas G?
"1910 cenus( indexed as Bars and a triangle saying maybe Bass) [The enumerators capital P does look a lot like a B.]
Hamilton Avenue, Passaic New Jersey, Harris 43, Annie 36, Bess 15, Morris 13, Rosa 12, Douglas 10, Teddy 8, parents born Russia children born Scotland. Said to have arrived in USA 1903. Harris is in Tea and Coffee Trade, the couple had been married 16 years and all 5 children were still living."
Regards Colin.
