Patchells - Ireland and PA
I'm looking for connections to the following members of my Patchell family. If anyone finds a connection, please let me know. Thanks ... Harry
George (1766-??) Patchell and Ann Patchell (1773-??) my gggggrandparents, emigrated from Ireland, September 11, 1850 and (according to the 1850 census) were living in West Bradford, Chester County, PA. Nearby, were the following Patchells: John, 46, emigrated Sept 6, 1850, living together with Mary, 44, John, 21, ???, 16, Elizabeth, 12, ???,7, Jane, 4, and Mary, 1. Also, there was a Thomas, 17, living near them with another family.
Hugh Patchell (3/18/1793-3/17/1877) and Martha Moore Patchell (11/17/1795-8/24/1876), my ggggrandparents, are believed to have emigrated from Ireland between 1843 and 1847, settling in Columbia, York County, PA, and then moving to Pittsburgh. Hugh Patchell was listed in Pittsburgh city directories for 1850, 1852, 1856-60, as a laborer, living at several different addresses. They are buried in Spring Hill Cemetary, Shippensburg, PA with their son, Sam L. Patchell (1837-1864), a member of Co. D, 130th PA Infantry, in the Civil War.
William Patchell (1822-7/8/1891) and Martha Williams Patchell (1822-5/1/1875), my gggrandparents, also appear to have emigrated from Londonderry, date unknown. Martha is said to have worked as a maid to pay for her passage after they moved to Pittsburgh. According to the Pittsburgh city directories, there was a William Patchell living and working as a laborer there in 1847, 1852, 1856-57, 1858-1860. William was one of Hugh and Martha Patchell's children.
Elizabeth Patchell Woods (3/9/1844-7/17/1901), my great grandmother was married to George Woods.
Colonel James J. Patchell (7/6/1832-2/28/1920) married to Mary Ann Fairbourne Patchell (1835-???) were my great great uncle and aunt. James entered the Civil War as a private and was mustered out as a Colonel. He served in the 102nd PA Volunteers and fought in many of the important battles of the war. His brothers (all children of Hugh and Martha Patchell) were also in the war: Thomas, Sam, John, George, and Edward. James died in Union City, IN. His son, George W. Patchell, was owner/editor of the Union City Times.
