The William Pattee that Belle married is part of a mysterious family group that is documented back to his father, William Gaylor Pattee & mother, Elizabeth Parker Kellam.William Gaylor's last name shows up differently as time goes by, the research data shows that.Based on the research so far, I believe William Gaylor Pattee was born William Gaylor Petty and purposely changed or allowed his name to be changed over time.I don't know why.My findings are definitely not conclusive.
According to the 1880 census data, Bell (Crain) Pattee was born IN, her father Canada & mother PA.The 1900 census has her born Feb 1862 IN, father Canada, mother IN.In 1900, Belle had 2/3 children living.
Based on Belle's son's name, Orange, I'm conjecturing that Orange Crain b. abt 1826 Canada and Delita b. abt 1835 OH are Belle's parents.Check the census: 1860 United States Federal Census > Indiana > Steuben > Steuben, pg 488.
There was another Orange Crain but his wife, Abigail(b.Canada), would have been about 50 when Belle was born.
