Thanks for the great info. The Richard in Parke County, IN that you discussed is the Richard I mentioned in earlier post that didn’t seem to match, I just neglected to mention census year.
You mentioned that both Richards seem to have married late in life. Do you have any idea of possible first spouses for either? The Richard in Darke County, 1830 appears to have a younger wife/woman that the Richard in 1820 Butler County.Death and remarriage possibly?
We may in fact share the same grandfather back in time. John W. Patton’s son, G GF Richard J Patten was b. in Darke County, OH abt 1836. Known siblings were James D., Joseph (twin of Richard), William T.,George W., Ann Marie, Martha C., and Malinda Jane. All the children were born in Darke County except for Martha. She was born in Preble County, OH, next door to Darke. So, there was some migration back and forth between Darke and Preble counties, possibly family connections there. I have lots of information on all the kids. John and family also moved to Cass County, but not until 1860. The Richard youbelieve to be your line had gone on to Iowa by the time John arrived in Cass.
There seems to be some confusion as to which Richard (Parke and Butler Counties) was which, and even who the kids were.I think the R Patton in Warren County, OH 1820 may throw another Richard in the mix. I don’t know if he was the Richard (If he was a Richard) that went to Parke County or not.Any ideas on that? C Patton
