I show the children of Joseph "Polley" Pauley, SR and wife "Mary":
(1) Edward PAULEY born bef. 1762 in Virginia (not 100% proven - possibly the same Edward Pauley who helps survey the lines for the newly formed - Tazewell County, VA in 1799, and is later found in Cabell County, VA/WV) (2) William "Polley" PAULEY born 2 March 1762 in Spotsylvania Co., VA - Married to Margaret MUNSEY, 11 April 1787 in Montgomery Co., VA; Died 22 November 1838 in Boone County, Indiana (3) Thomas "Polley" PAULEY born May 1763 in Augusta Co., VA - (my ggggrandfather) Married to Abigail MUNSEY, 16 October 1785 in Montgomery Co., VA; Died 3 March 1855 in Walker's Creek, Giles County, VA (4) Jonathan "Polley" PAULEY born ca. 1765 in Virginia (not 100% proven - could also be a ggggrandfather) - listed as 85 years old in Tazewell County in the 1850 census - living with son Jonathan Pauley.Does not appear in the 1860 census. (5) Joseph PAULEY, JR. born 1770/90 - I have no information on this Joseph, JR. - could possibly be the Joseph who moves into Kanawha County, WV;This Joseph, Jr is listed as younger than Thomas Pauley but does not appear in later censuses for Giles or Tazewell Counties, VA.
I have Joseph Pauley, SR dying around 1819 in Giles Co., VA. You have Joseph dying around 1815, but I show a deed in which Joseph is granted property as late as March of 1818:
Grants No. 67 - Page 173 - 2 March 1818 Joseph Pauley, Sr., Wythe County, VA 20 acres on Walker Creek.
As far as who is Joseph, Sr's wife - I show another deed by Joseph and wife "Mary":
29 March 1811 Jospeh Pauley and his wife Mary sold 100 acres in Giles County, VA to Elias Harmon for $500.
This is not to say that Nancy Kirkman could be a first wife or a second wife, but I have found no such evidence.
The 1810 census for Giles County, does list Joseph Pauley (spelled "Paulley") listed over 45 and with a wife, over 45.There is only one female under 10 living with this family.
You write that Priscilla Pauley is an ancestor and was born about 1771 or 1782 and died July 1848 in Tazewell, Tazewell, VA and that her father was Joseph I. Pauley (could this be the one mentioned as the Sr??).I would say most likely - "yes", but I have no proof. What do you have that shows that Priscilla is a daughter of Joseph Pauley? Is there a marriage listing? or Bible?
As far as I know, and what I have found, there was only one Joseph Pauley, SR in Giles who died around the time you say. This Joseph does not have any daughters listed in the 1810 census - although their is a young female under 10 - possibly a granddaughter.I have no doubt that Joseph Pauley, SR had several daughters, who possibly married before the 1810 census - but I don't know their names. Also, I have not found any Joseph Pauley of Giles County listed with a middle initial "I".I would like to know where you found this.We both agree that Joseph, SR was born around 1837.
When I talked about something happening to Joseph Pauley - this was not about Joseph Pauley, SR.There is another Joseph Pauley listed in the 1840 census who may be the son of Jonathan Pauley (who I believe may be another one of Joseph, SR's sons). It is this Joseph Pauley who married Susannah McNEAL, 6 September 1823 in Giles Co., VA.In the 1850 census all of Joseph and Susannah's children are displaced into the homes of other people.Susannah later in 1860 brings several of her children back together.Others I found in marriage records listing Joseph and Susannah as parents.
I do not have a listing for Isaac Lambert or Rebecca Suitor, but I do have a Nomi Suter, who married to Joshua DAY, 1 June 1835 in Giles Co., VA.Joshua Day and Naomi would later have a daughter named "Rebecca Day" who married my gggrandfather William Madison Pauley - son of Salathiel Pauley. When William Madison Pauley dies around 1868 (possibly because of the Civil War) marriage records show that "Rebecca Pauley" marries Isaac Paris PAULEY, 19 June 1869 in Bland Co., VA. Rebecca Pauley is listed as "widow" on this marriage listing.
Overall, I think your "Priscilla Pauley" was definately one of the daughters of Joseph, but more proof is needed.I do find a large connection between Pauleys and Lamberts in the Tazewell area.
I have more but it would take a lot of writing.Thanks.
