Donald, There are not any Paulks, Polks, or Palk ( all spellings of the name Paulk) in the 1850 Randolph County, Alabama census where David Lafayette Stephens lived after migrating from Clarke County, GA. in 1842.
By 1860, David L. and Weltha were married and living in the Delta area with their family.
Also living in the same community was William I. Paulk, farmer, 39 years of age, born GA. and his wife, Julia A., 34, born GA. (William I. was a brother of Weltha Ann)
Living next door was Solomon L. Fuller, 60, mechanic, born VA. and 3 sons:Philip,18; Sydney,16; and James Fuller, 13, All born AL. Also, in the household:M.J.Paulk, 7, born AL.
Also, one of the very first persons buried in the present day Shiloh-Delta Cemetery was a young man, G.W. Paulk, born 31 July 1848, died July 20, 1859. This person was not listed in the 1850 Randolph Co., AL. Census G.W.Paulk was the son of William I. Paulk and Julia Ann____.
Julia Ann joined Shiloh/Delta Primitive Baptist Church of Christ on May 31, 1851. (the church is now known simply as Shiloh/Delta Primitive Baptist Church. (The info on Julia Ann Paulk I obtained from the minutes books when I transcribed them several years ago).
Check out the corrections I sent Mickey Paulk on the Stephens/Paulk family on this forum. David LaFayette's daughter Mary Jane married James F. Braswell.James F. was a brother of William Zachariah Braswell who married Frances Elizabeth Stephens, sister of Mary Jane.
