Michael: Joseph-Jacque Payan, the first son of Jacques Payan and Louise Morin, was born in the City of Quebec on January 19, 1700, and bapttized the same day in the Church of Notre Dame. He was married in Quebec on November 2, 1721 to Marie-Jeanne-Genevieve Legris, the daughter of Jean Legris dit Lepine and Genevieve Sediot. Jacques Payan was born in France about 1674 and came to Quebec about 1695. He was a soldier in the King's Army and was a master shoemaker. In his later years (he died in 1736) he lived with Joseph and Marie on Saint Flavien Street in Quebec. Joseph later added a "t" to his last name and became known as the "Admiral" of Lake Champlain because he was a navigator on the Saint Lawrence River. After 1740 he plied his profession on the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain. Joseph-Jacque died in 1777.
