Hello Carol, Good to hear from you. My ggg grandfather and grandmother , Samuel and Cloe b ab 1780-1790 came from RI according to Smyrna, NY census records between 1800 and 1810.Samuel disappears from census between 1830 and 1840. I believe that they had 7 sons. I have found 4, maybe 5 of them.William b 1807, John b 1808 (these 2 dates could be reversed) , Samuel b.1814, and my Russell b. 1826.Between the last 2 were prob. 3 other boys, I found a Mathewson b 1822, other two in question.I live ab 5 miles from Smyrna, located in Chenango Co. in upstate NY, found the graves of John and Russell, found out that William died in Civil War in Kentucky, and many of Williams children went to Wi. with Samuel (1814). You could be descended from this line of the family. Want very much to help as I havent found many Paysons that came from RI, mostly they come from Maine and Mass. When I started my research, another Payson family living a few miles from Smyrna was my first challenge. That family was from Mass. The Paysons listed in this site are Williams children. On another genealogy site, ancestry.com, you may find more information.I will look for more information. Please keep in touch.Do you have more information about Edwards parentage? You can reach me at jtuttle@ascent.net.Regards, June
