I've been researching my Peabody family in Highland Co. I am the ggranddaughter of Kate Peabody and William Pensyl. Kate's father was James M. Peabody from Maine, her mother Rebecca Scott Peabody. James was born 9-14-1839 in Ohio, his mother died in childbirth and he was was raised by Adam Redkey. Cornelius and Stephen Peabody lived in Highland Co. Stephen and brother Belcher Peabody moved on to Missouri by 1850, Cornelius, their other brother, stayed in Highland Co. I found him as late as 1880 in Clay Twp. He is also found on the 1840, 1860, and 1870 census of Highland Co, but not 1850. He married his second wife Lucinda Larick in 1846 and apparently had no children by this wife. He has three children listed in 1840 by first wife Lovey O'Brien, who he married in 1833 in Pike Co, Ohio. Stephen Peabody was also married in Pike Co.in 1821 to Susan Elliott. Belcher Peabody was married the second time to Hannah Myers in 1841. I've had contact through this forum with two nice ladies Sheila and Janet who have given me some information because they are also related to these Peabody's. However, no one seems to know anything about James' parents. After looking at all the info I have, I have come to the conclusion he has to be related to these brothers I just can't figure out how. Janet mentioned a family Bible which mentioned James and Loren Peabody. I've never been able to find Loren's parents, but he connects later on with Belcher's family in Missouri. Stephen's family has a male age 30-40, and a female age 15-20 included with his family on the 1840 census. After looking at the 1830 Maine census Belcher Peabody has a daughter 0-5 and wife 20-30. Could this be Belcher with Stephen in 1840? Also what happened to Cornelius' children? Can't find them anywhere at least not with the name Peabody. Did his first wife Lovey die or did they divorce? If she remarried maybe she had the children and they were raised under another name. Belcher also has more than one child listed as born before 1840. This just gets more confusing the longer I search. However, I'm convinced that James fits into this puzzle either as a son or nephew of one of these brothers, could even be a grandson. Can anyone help me with this puzzle? James is the link and I would really like to find his parents so my Peabody tree will be complete.Lynn Johnson, Beauty, Ky.
